Boogaloo Shrimp

Michael Chambers, famously known as Boogaloo Shrimp, is an iconic American dancer and actor who became a global face of the street dance movement in the 1980s. Emerging from the Los Angeles scene, he is best known for his starring role as Turbo in the 1984 cult classic films Breakin' and Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo.

While often associated with the "Boogaloo" name, Shrimp is specifically celebrated for his mastery of Popping, Ticking, and Liquid Animation. His most famous cinematic moment—dancing with a broom outside a corner store—showcased a level of fluid control and "illusion" style that inspired a generation of dancers to view the body as a medium for visual effects.

Beyond his film career, he notably worked as a personal dance coach and choreographer for Michael Jackson, contributing to the evolution of the pop star's robotic and precision movements during the Farewell to the 1980s era. In the community, Boogaloo Shrimp is respected as a bridge between the raw, underground foundations of West Coast funk styles and their explosion into mainstream pop culture.
