Hugo Huizar
Hugo Huizar’s journey didn’t start on a stage; it started in his bedroom with a sketchbook. A quiet artist at heart, Hugo’s world shifted in 1979 when a backyard disco party introduced him to the electric energy of funk music. What began as secret practice sessions before high school quickly evolved into a whirlwind career that saw him battling future icons and touring the globe.
Affectionately dubbed "Mr. Smooth" by legends Shabba-Doo and Suga Pop. Hugo’s career is a "who’s who" of dance history. From traveling the world as a backup dancer to earning the personal respect of Michael Jackson, Hugo has remained a humble bridge between the foundations of the past and the innovators of the future. Whether he’s judging an international battle or sharing stories from the set of Breakin' 2, Hugo brings a lifetime of soul and smoothness to everything he touches and now he serves as a living archive for the community—educating and inspiring people worldwide.
We are proud to feature him as both a Street Dance Roots International Awards judge and a celebrated Hall of Fame inductee.
