From the streets of a redefining post-war Berlin to the global stage, Niels “Storm” Robitzky is one of the most influential figures in Hip-Hop history. A true guardian of Breaking culture, Storm has spent over four decades transitioning the dance from a passionate street movement into a globally respected art and sport form.

Storm’s journey began at age 14, trading team sports for skateboarding and ultimately, Breaking. Captivated by the raw expression and physical defiance created by Afro-American and Latin youth in the US, he became a professional touring dancer by 15.

His early career was marked by historic milestones, including a Guinness World Record for the windmill—an event that catalyzed his lifelong partnership with B-Boy Swift Rocker. Together, they formed the legendary Battle Squad, a crew that kept the flame of Breaking alive during the culture's commercial downturn in the late 1980s.

Battle Squad went on to make history, dominating the inaugural Battle of the Year (BOTY) in 1991, and pulling off a legendary duo victory against an 8-member crew the following year. Storm's dedication eventually brought him to New York, where he connected with the culture's architects—including Crazy Legs and Mr. Wiggles—and joined the seminal dance company Ghettoriginal.
He fundamentally shaped the infrastructure and preservation of Street Dance when he revolutionized the competitive landscape by developing structured, fair judging systems that seamlessly balance raw artistic expression with technical complexity—frameworks that standard global events rely on to this day. His contributions to Street Dance literature include the definitive book Think Breaking, where he explores the deep, essential connection between the physical dance, its cultural roots, and the innovators who built it. A visionary educator, Storm developed a unique, world-renowned didactic methodology that honors the history of the culture while safely pushing physical limits, while simultaneously pioneering theatrical integration by successfully establishing Street Dances within elite theater spaces globally.

Today, Storm continues to travel the world, passing down foundational knowledge to the next generation of dancers. He serves as a university professor at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz and has democratized Hip-Hop education through his online platform, StormDanceTV.

When he isn't teaching or traveling, Storm is a proud father, watching the next generation of his own family fall in love with the dance that shaped his life.
